Tera-Barrier Films manufactures gas barrier films with a portfolio of 44 patents and provides “Total Barrier Solutions” for flexible solar and plastic electronic applications (US$ 1Billion Market by 2016). Barrier films protect devices such as organic light emitting displays (OLED), thin film solar cells and flexible battery devices from oxygen and moisture which degrade their optimal performance. Tera-Barrier Films technology has successfully qualified its technology for flexible solar and display applications.
Tera-Barrier Films product, its high barrier film, enables companies to manufacture (Roll-to-Roll Processes) lightweight flexible OLED displays / lighting devices and flexible solar cells at lower cost. The flexible lighting devices will revolutionize the way rooms will be illuminated and will be much more efficient. It would further reduce electricity cost by more than 40%. The price reduction for solar cells will lead to further exponential growth of the solar cell market, leading to more green energy generation.
Mark played a key role in setting up a start-up company by securing funding from Applied Materials and KISCO. Prior to start-up, Mark was instrumental in leading the commercialization of barrier film under the flagship program. Mark has a Ph.D. (Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany), and held numerous roles at Institute of Materials Research and Engineering including Deputy Cluster Manager, Research Scientist and Business Manager.
Senthil is the key driver of the continued development of the barrier film technology. As a Principal Investigator at IMRE, he has executed several industry research projects and Flagship project in barrier films. Senthil has over 44 patents in barrier technology and has published over 30 papers. He obtained his post graduation in Surface Science & Technology from Loughborough University, UK and did his research project at Oxford University on barrier films. He has over 18 years of expertise in barrier substrate research, vacuum engineering & R2R coating systems.
